Looking for finishing ideas for douglas fir....shellac, tongue oil, etc. What do you think is the best?

Douglas Fir is my favorite floor. It distresses out better over time than any other flooring.

Try Treatex hardwax oil. We have had very good results with treatex on most types of flooring. www.treatex.co.uk Also see what our customers say on our web site www.jfjflooring.co.uk

Want to introduce myself as I'm new to this website. We manufacture a tough, economical fabric for temporary flooring protection that works great on any hard surface to protect from scratches and gouges. Won't tear even when wet. You can get details at FloorDefender.net

I was just told by an experinced installer that one coat of Mohagany stain on douglas fir then two clear coats will give your fir floor a very cool antique look. Let us know if you have an experince with staining douglas fir... http://www.douglasfirflooring.com

Thanks,

There's a wide range of finishes all of which give a slightly different look and feel. I prefer Tongue Oil like FloorFin or more green type products like Osmo. Both take 1 day between coats. Finishes like Min Was and Bona you can complete 3 - 4 coats in one day. Very fast drying.
Stains can be interesting to change the shade slighty. Experiment wiht 1 -34 coats.
